Overview
The Lumitec Surface Mount Navigation Light Composite is a surface-mount LED navigation light built for 10-30V DC systems, so it works on both 12V and 24V boats.
It suits refits and new installs where you do not have a molded recess or inset pocket. The composite housing mounts to a flat, horizontal surface and keeps a low profile where crew and lines may pass nearby.
The light is sealed to an IP67 level, which helps in exposed mounting spots that see spray, rinse-downs, and the vibration that comes with running in chop.
Key features
- 10-30V DC input range for 12V and 24V onboard electrical systems
- Surface-mount composite housing for installs on horizontal mounting surfaces where a recessed pocket is not practical
- IP67 sealing for wet locations that get regular washdowns
- Low-profile footprint that keeps the light from sticking out on deck, cabin tops, and hardtops
- Color-specific versions to match common navigation light requirements (red, green, or white)
Variants
This light is offered in multiple color outputs to match different navigation light positions on the boat.
The main difference between versions is the light color. Electrical input remains 10-30V DC and the surface-mount composite format stays consistent across the range.
- 101838: Light color: Green. Green output is commonly used for the starboard side position light, so mounting orientation and sightlines forward matter.
- 101848: Light color: Red. Red output is commonly used for the port side position light, and it should be placed where rails, spray shields, and canvas will not block the beam.
- 101868: Light color: White. White output is typically used for aft-facing or all-round navigation lighting depending on the vessel’s setup, so confirm the required light position on your boat before install.
Installation and wiring
Plan the mounting spot so the light has a clear view and the back side has room for wiring. Most surface-mount nav lights route the power leads through a small pass-through hole; seal the wire exit and fastener holes so water stays out of the core and the headliner.
Connect it to your navigation light circuit with tinned marine wire and heat-shrink terminals. Protect the circuit with the correct fuse at the source and avoid sharing the feed with high-noise loads that can introduce voltage drop on long runs.
Compatibility and fit
This light is for DC boats running 10-30V systems and is typically controlled from a standard navigation light switch at the helm. If you are replacing an existing light, confirm the mounting surface is flat enough for good gasket contact and that the new light will not be shadowed by the bow rail, pulpit, or deck hardware.
Navigation lighting has specific placement and color rules. Match the color to the required position light on your vessel and confirm the location provides the correct visibility without obstruction.
Use on board
This style of surface-mount light makes sense on center consoles, bay boats, RIBs, pilothouses, and sailboats where you want a clean install on a horizontal surface without cutting a recessed pocket. It also fits well for owners replacing older lights that leak around recessed housings or cracked lens assemblies.
