Overview
This Attwood Marine heavy-duty rubber keel roller is a trailer-mounted support roller for guiding and protecting the keel during launch, retrieval, and road transport. It is made with molded rubber over a steel tube and uses nylon end inserts, giving the roller the structure needed for heavier boat-trailer setups without leaving the hull resting directly on a hard metal surface.
The roller has a gradual inward taper with a V-cut profile that helps center the keel as the boat comes onto the trailer. It fits a 5/8 inch roller shaft and is available in 8 inch, 10 inch, and 12 inch lengths, making it easier to match the roller to the trailer bracket width and hull support point.
Key features
- Molded rubber over a steel tube gives the keel a cushioned contact point while keeping the roller body well supported.
- Nylon end inserts help the roller turn cleanly and reduce direct wear at the shaft openings.
- Gradual inward taper and V-cut profile help guide the keel during loading and launching.
- Fits 5/8 inch roller shafts commonly used on boat trailer keel roller brackets.
- Plastic inserts are included to help protect the roller from mounting hardware damage.
- Length options let the roller be matched to different trailer brackets and keel support locations.
Variants
This keel roller is offered in three length configurations for different trailer bracket widths and keel support needs.
The length changes between variants, while the 5/8 inch shaft fit, molded rubber over steel tube construction, nylon end inserts, tapered V-cut shape, and included plastic inserts remain consistent across the range.
- 11215-1: 8 inch length. This shorter roller suits trailer positions where the keel support area or bracket width calls for a compact roller.
- 11216-1: 10 inch length. This mid-size option gives more roller surface while keeping the same 5/8 inch shaft fit.
- 11217-1: 12 inch length. This longer roller gives the keel a wider contact area for trailer setups with broader roller brackets.
Installation and fit
Install the roller on a compatible keel roller bracket using a 5/8 inch shaft. Before ordering, measure the existing roller length and confirm the bracket spacing, because the correct length should sit properly between the bracket arms without binding.
During replacement, inspect the shaft, retaining clips, and bracket for corrosion, bending, or rough edges. A worn shaft or damaged bracket can keep a new roller from turning freely and can create uneven contact against the hull.
Use on board and at the ramp
This roller is a practical match for boat owners maintaining a trailer used for fishing boats, runabouts, and other trailered vessels where the keel needs steady support during loading and towing. It is especially useful when the boat is frequently launched and retrieved, since the roller helps the hull settle onto the trailer centerline with less scraping at the keel contact point.
