Overview
The Raymarine E70601 is a Class A AIS transceiver with a 5-inch 800 x 480 color display, 12 to 24 VDC power input, and built-in NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183, and Wi-Fi networking for commercial vessels, larger yachts, and other boats that need a dedicated AIS station at the helm.
It is built for Class A AIS operation on vessels where traffic awareness, onboard alarms, and compliance matter day after day. The unit combines one transmitter, three receivers, a 72-channel GNSS receiver, and a supplied GNSS antenna, with VHF operation across 156.025 MHz to 162.025 MHz.
The housing measures 152 mm x 165 mm x 70 mm and carries IPX6 and IPX7 water ingress protection with IEC 60945 Protected category compliance. That makes it easier to place on a bridge, bulkhead, or overhead location where spray, vibration, and constant use are part of normal service.
Key features
- Class A AIS transceiver for SOLAS and Inland Waterway applications, with vessel tracking, alarms, and onboard target management on the unit itself
- 5-inch 800 x 480 full-color LCD for AIS targets, alarm handling, and optional chart display support
- Built-in NMEA 2000, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, and multiple NMEA 0183 bi-directional ports for integration with mixed onboard electronics networks
- 12 to 24 VDC operation with 0.5 A draw at 12 V and a compact enclosure that suits bridge, bulkhead, desktop, or overhead mounting
- One transmitter and three receivers with automatic 1 W or 12.5 W output selection, 25 kHz channel bandwidth, and 9,600 bits per second transmission rate
- 72-channel GNSS receiver with GPS and GLONASS support, plus supplied GNSS antenna for position input
- Alarm relay output, DGPS correction input, optional pilot port, and microSD slot for software updates and charts
- IPX6 and IPX7 water protection and IEC 60945 Protected category compliance for work in exposed marine conditions
Compatibility and fit
This model fits boats that need a dedicated Class A AIS display rather than relying on a multifunction display for every AIS function. It can sit on a NMEA 2000 backbone, tie into legacy NMEA 0183 equipment, and link with Wi-Fi enabled systems, which is useful on vessels where older and newer electronics need to work together.
The connection set is broad enough for more involved bridge installations, including a VHF antenna connection, GNSS antenna connection, DGPS correction input, alarm relay, and an optional pilot port. That gives installers room to tie the unit into vessel monitoring, external alarms, and charting systems without forcing a one-network-only setup.
Installation and use on board
The front display makes sense on boats where AIS targets and CPA or TCPA alarms need to stay visible even when the main chart display is busy or mounted elsewhere. On commercial craft, larger cruising yachts, and professional bridge layouts, that can make day-to-day watchkeeping simpler.
This unit is a strong match for operators who need Class A carriage, a dedicated screen, and direct network connections to other onboard systems. It makes more sense on boats where compliance, bridge integration, and continuous AIS use matter more than saving space with a smaller recreational transceiver.
