Overview
The Vimar VM14812 is an IP40 surface-mount enclosure that holds a 4-module (2+2) layout for Vimar Eikon and Plana devices. It measures 13.6 x 8.3 x 5.5 cm, is made from grey plastic, and has a listed weight of 98.88 g.
It gives you a clean way to mount switches, sockets, or controls on a bulkhead or interior panel when you do not want to cut a recessed opening. The enclosure can be installed horizontally or vertically, so it is easier to match the layout of your helm, nav station, or cabin panels.
IP40 covers protection from solid objects, but it does not add water sealing. On boats, it makes the most sense in dry, sheltered areas rather than exposed cockpits, open decks, or washdown zones.
Key features
- 4 (2+2) module capacity for Vimar Eikon and Plana series devices
- Surface-mount format for refits and installations where flush mounting is not practical
- Horizontal or vertical mounting to suit the panel layout
- IP40 protection for interior locations where spray and washdowns are not expected
- Grey plastic enclosure that avoids corrosion concerns that can come with metal boxes in damp spaces
- Full insulating materials included for an insulated enclosure build
Compatibility and fit
This enclosure is sized for a 2x2 arrangement of two-module positions, for a total of four modules. Match the modules and front components to the Eikon or Plana family you are installing, and confirm the module count and layout before cutting or drilling your mounting surface.
Installation and setup
Mount the box on a flat, solid surface where the wiring can be routed without tight bends or chafe points. If you are installing it on a boat, place it where it will not be hit by direct spray, and leave enough room around the enclosure to access the modules and fasteners during service.
Use on board
This enclosure is a good fit for cruisers and workboats doing interior electrical refits, especially when adding controls at a nav station, inside a console, or along cabin bulkheads. It is also useful when you need a neat surface installation on liners or panels where a recessed cut-out would weaken the structure or expose hidden voids.
