Overview

The Vimar Idea 16165 is a 2-pole, key-operated 1-way switch for installations that need controlled access and a clean flush-mounted fit. It is a 1-module device rated 16 A at 250 V, with screw terminals, snap-in fastening, and front protection up to IP40.

On a boat, this type of switch fits best in protected interior panels where a circuit should not be operated freely, such as a cabin service panel, utility compartment, equipment locker, or another enclosed control point. The 2-pole layout gives complete circuit disconnection, and the body uses halogen-free thermoplastic with a matte finish.

It is part of the Vimar Idea modular range and installs with the matching Idea accessories. The device body measures 24.8 x 50.1 x 32.8 mm and accepts conductors from 1.5 to 4 mm2, which helps when checking panel depth and wiring space behind the faceplate.

Variants

This range is offered in four configurations that change the finish and the key profile.

Across the range, the switch format stays the same: 2-pole, 1-way, 16 A at 250 V, flush-mounted, 1-module, with screw terminals and front protection up to IP40. The differences shown here are the visible color and whether the switch uses the standard key or the 000 Unified key.

• VM16165: Color Gray, Key Type Standard. Gray keeps the front discreet on darker panels, consoles, and interior trim.
• VM16165.B: Color Ivory, Key Type Standard. Ivory suits lighter cabin finishes and traditional interior panels.
• VM16165.CU: Color Gray, Key Type 000 Unified. This version keeps the gray finish and uses the 000 Unified key profile for installations already set up around that key format.
• VM16165.CU.B: Color Ivory, Key Type 000 Unified. This pairs the ivory finish with the 000 Unified key profile in the same switch layout.

Compatibility and fit

This switch is built for the Vimar Idea platform and should be installed with the appropriate Idea support and cover accessories. It is better suited to helm consoles, cabin panels, and service spaces inside the boat than to exposed deck areas, since IP40 is intended for protected locations rather than spray-heavy mounting points.

Because it switches two poles together, it works where the installation calls for both sides of the circuit to open at the same time. That makes it a practical match for onboard electrical points that need controlled switching and a clean integrated appearance in an Idea-based panel.

Installation and use on board

The 32.8 mm built-in depth is worth checking before installation in shallow bulkheads or crowded switch panels. Screw-terminal wiring and snap-in mounting keep the layout straightforward, but marine installations still benefit from solid conductor support and careful panel assembly where vibration is part of normal use.
