Overview
The Blue Sea Systems AC Analog Ammeter is a panel-mounted analog meter for monitoring AC current on a boat, with variants covering 0 to 50A and 0 to 100A ranges. It uses a current transformer coil around the conductor being measured, so the meter can sense and power from the measured AC line without placing the meter directly in series with the load.
The 2.75 in face gives the display enough size for quick checks at an AC distribution panel, shore power panel, generator panel, or inverter-fed AC circuit. The meter draws 50mA AC at full scale and includes backlighting for low-light cabins, engine rooms, and electrical lockers.
Key features
- Analog AC ammeter for real-time current checks on onboard AC electrical circuits.
- Available in 0 to 50A and 0 to 100A ranges to match different panel and load monitoring needs.
- 2.75 in meter face gives the scale a readable size for helm-adjacent panels, cabins, and service spaces.
- Simple 2-wire meter connection from the current transformer coil slipped over the wire being measured.
- Meter senses and powers from the coil, reducing the need for a separate meter power feed for current measurement.
- Backlit face helps keep the reading visible during night operation or checks inside darker compartments.
- Includes an AC current transformer for the measured conductor.
Variants
This AC Analog Ammeter is offered in two amperage ranges for different AC monitoring points on board.
The amperage range changes between variants, while the panel meter format, 2.75 in face, coil-based measurement method, backlit display, and included AC current transformer remain consistent across the range.
- 8258: Amperage 0 to 100A. This range suits higher-capacity AC feeds where the panel needs to show current draw across a wider scale.
- 9630: Amperage 0 to 50A. This range gives a more focused scale for lower-current AC circuits, branch panels, or smaller onboard AC systems.
Installation and setup
The current transformer coil is fitted around the wire being measured, which lets the meter read AC current without interrupting the conductor. This layout is useful when adding current monitoring to an existing panel or replacing a meter in a marine AC distribution system.
Mount the meter where the face can be read during normal system checks, with enough clearance behind the panel for wiring and the transformer lead. Backlight wiring should be planned with the rest of the panel lighting so the meter remains easy to read without adding glare at night.
Use cases on board
This meter is a practical match for boat owners who want a direct analog view of AC load instead of relying only on breaker positions or digital monitoring. It is especially useful around shore power, generator output, inverter-fed AC panels, and service panels where current draw needs to be checked at a glance.
