Overview
The Blue Sea Systems AC Analog Micro Voltmeter is a compact analog panel meter for monitoring AC voltage on a boat’s electrical panel. It is offered in 0 to 150V AC and 0 to 250V AC ranges, giving the installer a scale that matches the onboard AC system being monitored.
The 2 in face keeps the meter easy to fit into tight helm, cabin, or distribution panel layouts while still giving a clear dial reading. The scale is marked in 5 volt increments, which makes it useful for quick checks of shore power, generator output, or AC distribution voltage without scrolling through a digital display.
The meter connects to AC hot and neutral for voltage sensing and powers itself from that same connection. The face is backlit for low-light panels, with separate 12V or 24V DC backlight wiring depending on the vessel’s lighting circuit.
Key features
- Analog AC voltage monitoring for marine electrical panels, with 0 to 150V AC and 0 to 250V AC configurations available.
- 2 in meter face fits compact panel layouts where full-size instrumentation would take up too much space.
- Dial marked in 5 volt increments for quick voltage checks at the helm, nav station, or main AC panel.
- Simple connection to AC hot and neutral for sensing, with the meter powered from the same AC connection.
- Backlit face helps keep the voltage reading visible in cabins, engine rooms, and low-light panel locations.
- Separate 12V or 24V DC backlight connections allow the illumination to tie into common onboard DC lighting circuits.
- Low weight of 0.19 lb makes it easy to integrate into lightweight panels and retrofit installations.
Variants
This voltmeter is offered in two configurations that differ by AC voltage range. The right range depends on the AC system or panel section being monitored.
Both variants share the same micro analog meter format, 2 in face size, backlit face, and AC hot and neutral sensing connection.
- 8244, Function 0 to 150V. This range keeps the dial focused for lower-voltage AC monitoring, such as panels where the expected reading sits well within a 150V scale.
- 8245, Function 0 to 250V. This range gives more headroom on the dial for higher-voltage AC monitoring where a 150V scale would not be appropriate.
Installation and setup
Use this meter in an AC panel location where the face can be read easily and the rear terminals can be protected from contact. The sensing connection is made to AC hot and neutral, so installation should follow the vessel’s AC wiring practices and should be handled with the AC source isolated.
The backlight uses separate DC wiring, which allows the meter illumination to come on with the rest of the panel lighting. Use the correct backlight leads for a 12V or 24V DC lighting circuit so the illumination matches the boat’s electrical setup.
Use cases on board
This meter is a practical match for boat owners and installers who want a dedicated AC voltage reading at the distribution panel without adding a digital monitor. It is especially useful where a simple glance at shore power, inverter, or generator voltage is enough to confirm that the AC supply is in the expected range.
