Overview

This Vimar surface mounting box is a rectangular enclosure for 12 modules in a 6+6 Idea layout or 14 modules in a 7+7 Eikon or Plana layout. It mounts on a wall or ceiling, works with the relevant mounting frames and cover plates, and has eight inlets with rear entry for 20 mm or 25 mm conduit.

The box measures 206 x 152 mm with about 70 mm depth, uses halogen-free plastic, carries a rated insulation voltage of 450 V, and is rated IP20 for protected interior spaces. On a boat, that points it toward cabins, helm surrounds, technical areas, and other dry locations rather than exposed deck or washdown zones.

Variants

This box is offered in four finish options for installations where the enclosure remains visible after surface mounting.

Across the range, the module capacity, mounting format, conduit entry layout, and system compatibility stay the same. The main change between variants is the visible finish of the box.

• VM09920.01: White. This keeps the enclosure neutral on light interior panels, and in Eikon installations this finish is used with Eikon Chrome cover plates.
• VM09920.04: Idea White. This finish aligns the exposed box with Idea White trim and plates.
• VM09920.14: Idea Grey. This changes the visible box finish to Idea Grey for installations built around that color scheme.
• VM09920.SL: Silver. This changes the visible box finish to silver on surface-mounted installations.

Compatibility and fit

This box is used when the wiring point cannot be recessed into the bulkhead or overhead and a surface enclosure is the cleaner way to mount Vimar controls or outlets. It suits interior refits, service spaces, and accommodation areas where the box will sit proud of the surface and still needs to match the surrounding Vimar hardware.

Check the module count before ordering. Idea devices use the 12-module 6+6 format, while Eikon and Plana devices use the 14-module 7+7 format, and the installation also requires the corresponding mounting frame and cover plate.

Installation and onboard use

On board, the IP20 rating matters. This box belongs in protected locations such as cabins, interior helm stations, utility areas, or covered spaces that stay dry in normal use. It is not the right choice for open cockpits, exposed flybridges, washdown zones, or other places that see spray or standing water.

The conduit entry layout gives some flexibility when routing cable through joinery, liners, or service trunks. It is a good match for boats using Vimar switchgear where a surface-mounted enclosure makes access and future service easier.
