Overview
The Attwood Marine Neat Cleat is a retractable stainless steel boat cleat made for decks and gunwales where a fixed cleat would add a snag point or take up working space. It pulls up when a dock line is needed and pushes down into a low profile position when not in use, which helps keep walkways, fishing areas, and boarding points cleaner underfoot.
This cleat range uses 7/8 inch stainless steel stanchions with internal friction springs that hold the cleat up at any position. Drainage receptacles are included to capture water that enters around the stanchions and route it toward the bilge through 1/4 inch OD pitot tubing, which is sold separately.
Key features
- Retractable pop-up layout reduces exposed hardware on decks, gunwales, swim platforms, and other traffic areas.
- Stainless steel construction with 7/8 inch stanchions supports use in wet marine environments.
- Internal friction springs hold the cleat up while lines are being handled.
- Low profile shape helps reduce line snags, toe stubs, and clutter around working areas on board.
- Two-hole installation works well on narrow gunwales when the deck structure has enough backing and clearance below.
- Drainage receptacles are included and can route moisture toward the bilge with standard 1/4 inch OD pitot tubing, sold separately.
Variants
The Neat Cleat is offered in multiple lengths so the cleat can be matched to the boat size, line size, and the available mounting area.
The cleat length changes between variants. The retractable layout, stainless steel construction, friction-spring action, and drainage receptacle design remain consistent across the range.
- 66515-7: 4-1/2 inch length. This size suits compact mounting areas where a lower footprint matters, such as smaller gunwales or tight deck sections.
- 66517-7: 6 inch length. This length gives more line contact area while still fitting many narrow gunwale installations.
- 66519-1: 8 inch length. This option is a practical match for larger deck layouts where dock lines need a longer cleat body.
- 66538-1: 10 inch length. This is the largest listed size for applications that need the longest cleat in the range and have the deck space to support it.
Installation and fit
Installation uses a two-hole mounting pattern made with an appropriate hole saw. Before cutting, check that the mounting area has enough flat surface, underside access, backing support, and depth for the retracted cleat body and drainage parts.
Because the drainage receptacles sit below the cleat, the underside of the deck or gunwale should allow space for the receptacles and a clean tubing path toward the bilge. Any installation that will see dock-line loads should be backed properly for the boat structure and expected use.
Use cases on board
This cleat is a good fit for boat owners who want usable tie-off points without leaving fixed hardware exposed all the time. It works especially well around boarding areas, fishing decks, narrow side decks, and gunwales where people move, handle lines, or step across the hardware regularly.
