Overview

The Garmin 010-02139-10 is a 5-inch touchscreen display used to monitor data and control onboard switching from an extra location on your boat. It connects to a NMEA 2000 network for power and data (9 to 16 Vdc), and it fits a tight dash space with a compact body measuring 105 x 140 x 51 mm (4.13 x 5.51 x 2.01 in.) without the sun cover.

This display is meant to work with connected systems, not as a stand-alone screen. For Garmin Marine Network features, it must be networked with one or more compatible Garmin chartplotters, and it connects using a nine-pin Garmin Marine Network cable (sold separately).

On the water, it is built to handle the realities of spray and washdowns with an IPX7 water rating and a fully-gasketed polycarbonate housing. The glass lens has an anti-glare and anti-fingerprint finish, and the screen brightness is rated at 1200 cd/m2 for daylight viewing.

Compatibility and system integration

The TD 50 ties into your NMEA 2000 backbone for power and for sharing data with other NMEA 2000 devices on board. For Garmin Marine Network connectivity, plan cable routing for the nine-pin Marine Network cable and allow space behind the dash for connectors and service loops.

This unit is intended to be used as a display for an EmpirBus system. When it is connected to a Garmin Marine Network, it can also access shared functions such as radar, sonar, and autopilot when the required compatible devices are present on the network.

Installation and mounting

Flush mounting uses the included cutout template and hardware, with gasket pieces applied to the back of the unit to help seal the installation. The mounting process supports different dash materials using either wood screws or nut plates and machine screws, and the trim caps cover the fasteners for a clean finish.

Choose a mounting surface that stays flat and has enough strength to handle vibration. Keep at least 20 cm (7.87 in.) away from a magnetic compass, and avoid mounting locations exposed to temperatures outside -15 to 55 C (5 to 131 F). A flat-mount kit can be used when you want the unit to sit differently against the dash surface.

On-board use

This display makes sense anywhere you want quick access to switching and monitoring without walking back to the main helm screen. Common placements include a secondary helm station, the cockpit on larger center consoles, the cabin entry bulkhead, or a below-deck location where you check systems while underway.

It is a practical fit for boats already running NMEA 2000 and a compatible Garmin chartplotter on the Garmin Marine Network, especially when you want an extra touchscreen that stays consistent with the rest of the onboard interface.

Screen care and maintenance

Use a soft, clean, lint-free cloth for routine wipe-downs. For deeper cleaning, use an eyeglass lens cleaner that is safe for anti-reflective coatings and avoid ammonia-based cleaners and abrasive products that can damage the screen surface.
