Overview
The Garmin 010-12989-04 is a protective cover for Garmin GPSMAP 15x3 Series marine displays, used to cover the screen when the unit is not in use. It fits snugly over the display to help keep the face of the chartplotter away from scratches and direct sun exposure at the helm.
This cover is a practical accessory for boats with exposed electronics on a center console, flybridge, cockpit dash, or pilothouse station. It is useful after docking, during storage, or any time the GPSMAP display is left installed but not actively being used.
Key features
- Fits Garmin GPSMAP 15x3 Series marine displays.
- Helps protect the display face from scratches when the unit is not in use.
- Covers the screen to reduce sun exposure while the boat is docked, stored, or between runs.
- Snug fit helps the cover stay in place over the compatible display.
- No wiring, power connection, network setup, or software configuration is required.
Installation and fit
This cover installs by placing it directly over the compatible GPSMAP 15x3 Series display. It is meant for the display face, so there is no dash modification, mounting hardware, or electrical work involved.
For the cleanest fit, use it on the intended GPSMAP 15x3 Series unit and remove it before operating the display. It is a good replacement for a lost cover or a spare to keep onboard for regular helm protection.
Use on board
At the helm, display covers take abuse that would otherwise reach the screen first. This cover is a good match for boats where the chartplotter remains installed in sunlight, around fishing gear, dock lines, cleaning supplies, or regular cockpit traffic.
Use it as part of the normal shutdown routine after a trip, especially on vessels where electronics stay mounted between outings rather than being removed and stored inside.
Maintenance and care
Rinse salt and grit from the cover before wiping it down, since dry salt or sand can scratch surfaces over time. Let the display area dry before covering whenever possible, especially after washing the boat or running in spray.
