Overview
The JL Audio StowAway is an enclosed subwoofer system with a sealed, down-firing hard-shell enclosure and 300 W continuous power handling. It is sold in 10 in and 12 in sizes, with either 2 ohm or 4 ohm impedance to match different amplifier loads.
The enclosure is prewired with selectable harness exits underneath at opposite ends, which helps when you are routing wire through a locker or under a helm. It is water-resistant for marine environments, but it is not meant to be submerged or hit with high-pressure spray.
This setup makes sense when you want added low-end on a center console, bay boat, or cruiser without building a custom box. Mount it where it stays dry and where you can fasten it down securely so it cannot move under pounding or wake impacts.
Key features
- 300 W continuous power handling, with recommended amplifier power of 75 to 300 W
- Sealed enclosure with a down-firing subwoofer layout that keeps the driver protected in storage and footwell areas
- Water-resistant enclosure for marine use, with guidance to avoid submersion and high-pressure water spray
- Selectable harness exits underneath at opposite ends for cleaner cable routing
- Slotted mounting feet at each corner to help with off-the-floor installs and tight mounting access
- Black texture finish with a protective mesh grille
- Offered in 10 in and 12 in sizes, with 2 ohm or 4 ohm impedance options
Variants
This product is offered in multiple configurations based on subwoofer size and nominal impedance.
The 10 in and 12 in versions share the same basic enclosure approach and 300 W continuous power handling, while the 2 ohm or 4 ohm option changes the amplifier load. Match the impedance to an amplifier that is rated stable at that load for a subwoofer channel.
- 010-03454-00: Size 10 in, Impedance 2 ohm. A 2 ohm load can draw more from the amplifier than a 4 ohm option, so confirm the amp is rated for 2 ohm operation on the sub channel.
- 010-03584-00: Size 10 in, Impedance 4 ohm. A 4 ohm load is a common match for many mono and bridged sub channels and can be helpful when you want more amplifier headroom.
- 010-03586-00: Size 12 in, Impedance 2 ohm. The larger enclosure footprint needs more mounting space, and the 2 ohm load requires an amplifier that is stable at 2 ohms.
- 010-03588-00: Size 12 in, Impedance 4 ohm. The 12 in option adds enclosure size compared with the 10 in model while keeping a 4 ohm load for amplifier matching.
What’s included
- Enclosed subwoofer system
- Protective mesh grille
- Documentation
Installation and setup
Mounting hardware is not included, so plan fasteners and backing based on your surface and access. The final mounting method should hold the enclosure firmly to prevent movement and vibration, especially in chop.
Keep the unit out of engine compartments and away from areas that see extreme heat. Before drilling or fastening, confirm there are no hidden wires, hoses, or fuel lines behind the mounting surface, and disconnect the battery system while making connections.
Compatibility and fit
This is a passive subwoofer system that requires an external amplifier. Use an amplifier rated within the recommended 75 to 300 W range, and match the amplifier output to the 2 ohm or 4 ohm impedance of the configuration you select.
For space planning, the 10 in enclosure measures 18.0 in W x 12.5 in D x 7.0 in H, with mounting location needs of about 16.16 in width and 10.66 in depth. The 12 in enclosure measures 21.78 in W x 15.16 in D x 8.23 in H, with mounting location needs of about 19.29 in width and 12.66 in depth.
Use cases on board
This enclosure style works well under seating, inside a dry console compartment, or along a bulkhead where gear may slide around and the subwoofer still needs protection. It is a good match for boats that want fuller low-end without committing to a custom fiberglass or wood enclosure build.
Maintenance and care
Rinse with freshwater and mild soap when needed, and avoid high-pressure spray. If the mounting area can flood or hold standing water, relocate the enclosure to a drier compartment.
