Overview
The Garmin 010-10121-00 is an MCX to BNC adapter cable that connects a compatible Garmin GPS with an MCX antenna port to an external antenna that uses a BNC connector.
It solves the common mismatch between handheld or compact GPS units and many marine antenna leads, letting you keep the GPS where you can see it while placing the antenna where it has a clearer view of the sky.
A right-angle connector on the GPS end helps in tight helm pods and console cutouts, where a straight plug would stick out and take more abuse from vibration and accidental bumps.
Key features
- Adapts an MCX antenna connection on a compatible Garmin GPS to a BNC antenna connection.
- Right-angle MCX connector at the GPS end for installs with limited clearance.
- Works as an in-line adapter between the GPS and an existing BNC-terminated antenna cable.
- Helps support remote antenna mounting on rails, hardtops, and cabins when the GPS is mounted at the helm or below.
Compatibility and fit
This cable is intended for Garmin GPS units that accept an external antenna through an MCX connector. The antenna side is made to mate with the BNC connector style commonly found on marine GPS antennas and extension leads. Since similar-looking RF connectors are not interchangeable, verify the connector type on both the GPS and the antenna cable before installation.
Installation and setup
Connect the right-angle end to the GPS antenna port, then attach the BNC end to the antenna cable. Route and secure the cable so it is supported and does not hang on the GPS connector, which matters on boats that see pounding and constant vibration. Protect the run anywhere it passes through a console, bulkhead, or chase to avoid chafe.
Use on board
This adapter is a good match for boaters who run a Garmin handheld or compact GPS at the helm and want to use a remote antenna to improve satellite visibility when the GPS is under a windshield, inside a pilothouse, or at a nav station below.
Maintenance and care
Check the connection points periodically for looseness and for early signs of corrosion. If the connectors are in a wet area, keep the joint as protected as your installation allows and re-seat the connectors after heavy washdowns.
