Overview
The Garmin XMD-MCB waterproof ignition protected circuit breaker is a manual-reset breaker that protects a DC power feed from overloads and shorts while keeping water out of the mechanism. It is IP67 rated and suitable for washdowns and brief immersion up to 1 meter, and it carries an SAE J1171 external ignition-protected rating for use in engine compartments and fuel tank spaces.
Instead of replacing a blown fuse, you reset the breaker using the built-in high-visibility switch. The range covers 30 A through 80 A, which makes it useful for marine audio amplifier power runs, accessory buses, and other high-current circuits where you want protection that is easy to service on the water.
Key features
- Manual-reset design with a high-visibility switch, so a tripped circuit can be restored without swapping fuses
- IP67 rating for exposure to spray, rain, and washdowns, with sealing that supports brief immersion up to 1 meter
- SAE J1171 external ignition-protected rating for use in engine compartments and fuel tank spaces
- Corrosion-resistant connection points with stainless steel hardware for marine electrical terminations
- Available amperage ratings from 30 A to 80 A to match different circuit protection needs
Installation and setup
Mount the breaker on a solid surface where the reset switch can be reached without removing panels. Use properly crimped ring terminals at the studs and marine-grade cable sized for the amperage and run length. Place the breaker close to the power source to keep the unprotected section of cable short, as you would with any main feed or branch protection.
Compatibility and fit
This is a DC circuit breaker intended for boat electrical systems and accessory circuits. The amperage rating is the selection point, and it should be matched to the wire gauge and the load you are protecting so the breaker trips before the wiring is overstressed. When used for audio amplifiers, match the breaker size to the amplifier power wiring and the total current draw of the system.
Use cases on board
It suits boats that see spray, rain, and frequent washdowns, and it is also appropriate for installations in engine rooms where ignition protection matters. It is commonly installed inline on feeds to marine stereos, amplifiers, distribution blocks, lighting circuits, and other accessories that benefit from a resettable breaker.
Variants
This product is offered in multiple amperage ratings to match different circuit loads.
Across the range, the breaker keeps the same manual-reset format with an IP67-rated housing, an SAE J1171 ignition-protected rating, and corrosion-resistant connection points. The amperage rating is what changes between versions.
- 010-13681-00: 30 A amperage rating. Often used for accessory circuits where the wiring is sized around a 30 amp limit.
- 010-13682-00: 40 A amperage rating. Common on higher-draw accessory feeds where protection is typically set at 40 amps.
- 010-13683-00: 50 A amperage rating. Frequently used on marine audio power feeds and small distribution blocks.
- 010-13684-00: 60 A amperage rating. Used for higher-current accessory runs where cable sizing supports a 60 amp breaker.
- 010-13685-00: 80 A amperage rating. Suits high-current feeds where protection in the 80 amp range is required.
