Overview
The Garmin BlueChart g3 Vision HD VUS001R is a coastal electronic chart for North Maine covering from Calais to Camden, including Bar Harbor and Penobscot Bay. It loads on compatible Garmin chartplotters as either a microSD/SD card or a computer download, and it adds Vision-style chart layers such as 3D views, aerial photos, and relief shading where supported.
In the coverage area, you get detailed navigation charts plus depth contours, tidal stations, currents, IALA symbols, and fishing bathymetry. Auto Guidance can calculate a suggested path using your entered draft and overhead clearance settings, which is useful for route planning but still needs a skipper’s check against local conditions.
Key features
- VUS001R coverage for North Maine from Calais to Camden, including Bar Harbor and Penobscot Bay
- Works with compatible Garmin chartplotters and sounders that support BlueChart g3 Vision mapping
- Integrated Garmin and Navionics content in the chart area for navigation and fishing views
- Auto Guidance suggested routing based on user-entered depth and overhead clearance settings
- High-resolution relief shading along the continental U.S. coastline out to 40 miles offshore, plus 3D views and aerial photos on supporting devices
- Depth Range Shading support for up to 10 depth ranges in covered areas when your display supports the feature
- Available as a preprogrammed microSD/SD card or as a Garmin Express download
Variants
This chart is offered in two delivery formats for the same VUS001R North Maine coverage area.
The difference between the options is how you receive and load the chart. A preprogrammed card is ready to insert, while the download version is obtained through Garmin Express and then used from the card media in your chartplotter.
- 010-C0702-00: Format microSD/SD. This comes on a physical card that you insert into the chartplotter’s card slot, and the chart data is read from the card during use.
- 010-D0532-00: Format Download. This is delivered through Garmin Express on a computer and then used from compatible card media in the chartplotter.
Compatibility and setup
Your unit must support BlueChart g3 Vision cartography and have the appropriate card slot for the media you plan to use. Chart layers such as 3D views, aerial photos, and shading can be device-dependent, so it helps to confirm your chartplotter’s chart and feature compatibility before purchase.
For card media, insert the card into the chartplotter and select the chart from the map or chart menu. For the download format, use Garmin Express on a computer to download the chart and then use the resulting card media in the chartplotter for display and navigation.
Use on board
This is a practical match for coastal cruisers and anglers working the Downeast route, where clear depth contours, currents, and harbor detail matter for daily decisions. The added 3D and photo-style layers can also help with visual orientation when approaching marinas and entrances in unfamiliar spots, especially in changing light or reduced visibility.
As with any electronic cartography, keep an eye on local notices, buoy changes, and real-time conditions, and treat suggested routes as planning guidance rather than an autopilot command.
