Overview
The Garmin BlueChart g3 Vision HD VUS517L is an electronic chart for Alaska South that loads on a compatible Garmin chartplotter and gives you detailed coastal coverage from Prince of Wales Island to Point Lay on the North Slope.
This coverage includes areas such as Glacier Bay, the Kenai Peninsula, and the Aleutian Chain, with bathymetric coverage in places like the Gulf of Alaska and Bristol Bay. The chart package supports detail layers such as relief shading, depth range shading, and up to 1 foot contours to help you read bottom shape more clearly when you are navigating tight water or looking for structure.
It also adds satellite imagery and 3-D viewing options (MarinerEye and FishEye) for perspective above and below the waterline when you are planning routes, approaching unfamiliar harbors, or working along rugged shoreline.
Key features
- Covers Alaska South waters from Prince of Wales Island to Point Lay on the North Slope, including Glacier Bay, the Kenai Peninsula, and the Aleutian Chain.
- Bathymetric coverage for key areas such as the Gulf of Alaska and Bristol Bay, plus U.S. waters in the Chukchi and Bering Seas.
- Integrated Garmin and Navionics data for chart detail and coverage in supported areas.
- Auto Guidance uses your chosen depth and overhead clearance to calculate a suggested route on compatible chartplotters.
- High-resolution relief shading plus depth range shading and shallow water shading for quicker depth awareness at a glance.
- Up to 1 foot contours in supported areas for a tighter view of bottom structure.
- Satellite imagery and 3-D views (MarinerEye and FishEye) to add visual context when entering bays, passes, and harbor approaches.
Variants
This chart is offered in two delivery formats. The coverage area and chart content are the same; the difference is how you receive and load the chart.
Match the format to your chartplotter setup and how you prefer to manage updates and storage.
- 010-C0887-00: Format microSD/SD. This version comes on a physical card that you insert into the chartplotter’s card slot, so it is a straightforward option for boats where you want plug-in chart access at the helm.
- 010-D0503-00: Format Download. This version is delivered digitally and is loaded to the chartplotter through the supported Garmin chart management process, which can be useful when you do not want physical media.
Compatibility and fit
This cartography is intended for compatible Garmin chartplotters that support BlueChart g3 Vision HD. Before ordering, confirm that your unit supports Vision charts and that the card slot type matches the format you plan to use.
It is a good match for boaters running Alaska coastal routes, fishing structure-heavy areas, or planning longer passages where bottom detail and shaded depth cues help with decision-making on the water.
Using it on board
Once loaded, the extra layers such as relief shading, depth range shading, and shallow water shading can be toggled to match the conditions and the kind of navigating you are doing. The 3-D views are most useful for understanding terrain and approach lines when you want an additional perspective beyond standard chart view.
