Overview
The MotorGuide 940200210 is a 12V freshwater bow-mount trolling motor with hand control, 55 lb peak thrust, and a 50 inch shaft. It uses a twist-tiller for speed and direction, with five forward speeds and two reverse speeds, and it pulls up to 49 amps at full output.
This setup is a common fit on bass boats and jon boats when you want bow-mounted control without a foot pedal. The 50 inch shaft length is the key fit check, measure from the bow mounting surface down to the waterline and make sure you have enough length to keep the prop submerged when the bow lifts in chop.
Key features
- 12V freshwater bow mount with 55 lb peak thrust and a 50 inch shaft
- Hand control with an ergonomic, extendable twist-tiller handle for steering and speed control
- Five forward speeds and two reverse speeds, with an off position on the tiller
- Up to 49A max amp draw for electrical planning and circuit protection sizing
- Machete three-blade prop for everyday weed and open-water trolling scenarios
- Wide aluminum bracket mount with a latch release handle for stowing and deploying at the bow
Installation and setup
Plan the bow mounting position so the motor column clears the bow when stowed and deployed. A practical benchmark is keeping about 3 inches (7.6 cm) of clearance between the bow and the motor column so it can move freely during stow and deploy.
Mount the bracket on a solid, flat section of the deck using at least four mounting bolts, spread as far apart as practical for stability. After installation, set running depth so the prop stays fully submerged, with the blades about 6 to 12 inches (15 to 30 cm) below the surface to reduce ventilation in waves.
Electrical and system integration
This is a 12V motor, so it connects to a single 12V battery. Because max draw can reach 49A, keep wiring runs tidy, use appropriate cable gauge for the length of your run, and include proper circuit protection between the battery and the motor.
On boats with an existing 24V trolling setup, this model still needs a 12V supply. If your bow already has a breaker panel or battery compartment, double-check that the available circuit matches the motor voltage before committing to the install.
Use on board
The twist-tiller control is straightforward for dock approach work, holding on a breakline, or making small heading corrections while fishing. Rotate the handle clockwise for forward, counterclockwise for reverse, and return to off when you want the motor stopped.
It is a good match for anglers who prefer hand control at the bow and want a simple 12V system without added electronics or foot-pedal rigging.
Maintenance and care
Before each trip, check the mount hardware for tightness, confirm battery lead connections are secure, and inspect the prop nut. After use, disconnect from the battery, clear weeds or fishing line from the prop and shaft, and rinse with clean water to remove grime that can scratch surfaces.
