Overview
The Garmin 010-12769-01 is a 6.5 ft (2 m) 8-pin power and data cable with hailer wiring for compatible Garmin VHF radios, keeping power, NMEA 0183 leads, and hailer connections in one harness.
It is commonly used with the Garmin VHF 315 and VHF 315i when you are installing a radio at the helm or replacing a damaged cable behind the console.
Key features
- 6.5 ft (2 m) cable length with an 8-pin plug that mates to the radio
- Breaks out separate leads for vessel power plus NMEA 0183 and hailer connections in the same cable run
- Supports Garmin VHF 315 and VHF 315i installations and replacements
- Includes wiring for NMEA 0183 integration when your system uses serial data connections
- Includes hailer conductors for connecting the radio to an external hailer horn or PA speaker circuit
Compatibility and fit
This cable uses Garmin’s 8-pin power and data connector found on the VHF 315 and VHF 315i. If your radio has a different connector style, this is not the correct harness.
The data breakout is for NMEA 0183 wiring. It is not a NMEA 2000 drop cable and it does not connect directly into a NMEA 2000 backbone.
Installation and setup
Plan the route from the radio to your power distribution and any terminal strips before terminating the leads. The 6.5 ft (2 m) length works well for many helm consoles, but measure the actual path and leave a small service loop so the radio can be removed later without stressing the connector.
Use quality crimp connectors with adhesive-lined heat shrink on terminations and secure the harness so vibration does not pull on the 8-pin plug. Route it away from sharp edges and high-heat areas, and avoid bundling it tightly with high-current wiring when possible.
On-board use notes
Use the NMEA 0183 leads when you want the VHF to exchange serial data with older plotters and GPS sources, such as position information for DSC functions. Use the hailer leads only when you are wiring the radio to a hailer horn or PA speaker circuit that matches the radio’s hailer output requirements.
This harness is a good match for refits where the boat already has NMEA 0183 wiring at the helm, or for straightforward VHF 315 or VHF 315i replacements where you want a clean single-cable run behind the console.
