Overview
The Garmin GPSMAP 67 is a button-operated handheld GPS that works well as a backup navigator on board, or as your primary position and waypoint tool when you are in the dinghy, kayak, or away from the helm. It uses a 3-inch color display, charges over USB-C, and carries an IEC 60529 IPX7 water rating for rain, spray, and accidental immersion.
Battery life is rated up to 180 hours in GPS mode on the standard model, while the inReach-equipped version is rated up to 165 hours when satellite tracking is running at a 10-minute interval. Both versions use multi-band GNSS support to hold a position more consistently when coverage gets messy, and they include ABC sensors (altimeter, barometer, and a 3-axis electronic compass) for heading and elevation data.
Mapping comes preloaded with TopoActive coverage for the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, and the unit can also pull down satellite imagery over Wi-Fi when you want extra detail for route planning. On a boat, that typically means a clear, fast way to save and revisit waypoints like fishing spots, anchorages, or route markers, alongside the navigation you already run on your chartplotter.

Variants
This product is offered in two configurations based on whether you need inReach satellite communication.
The core handheld GPS platform remains the same across the range, while the inReach option adds satellite-based messaging, tracking, and SOS features that require an active subscription.
- 010-02812-00: With inReach Technology: Yes. Includes satellite two-way messaging, location tracking, and interactive SOS for trips where you may be outside cellular range.
- 010-02813-00: With inReach Technology: No. Focuses on handheld GPS navigation and mapping without satellite messaging or SOS features.
Installation and setup
This is a carry-on device rather than a fixed-mount system. Charge it fully via the USB-C port before first use, then set your position format and datum to match the numbers you use elsewhere on the boat so waypoints line up cleanly.
For trip planning and data management, pairing with the Garmin Explore app can make it easier to organize waypoints, tracks, and saved routes. If you select the inReach-enabled variant, pairing with the Garmin Messenger app is used for messaging and activation of satellite features.
Use cases on board
Boaters who want a handheld backup for coastal cruising, or a quick way to mark and return to fishing structure, tend to keep a unit like this in the cockpit bag or ditch bag. It is also a practical choice for tenders, paddling, and shore excursions where your fixed electronics are not coming with you.
The inReach version is a strong fit for remote anchorages, offshore passages, and anyone who wants a separate way to communicate or share a location when the phone has no signal.
Maintenance and care
After exposure to saltwater, rinse the exterior with fresh water and wipe it down. Let the unit dry fully before charging, and make sure the USB-C port area is dry to avoid corrosion and charging issues over time.
