Overview
The Garmin GLO 2 is a portable Bluetooth GPS and GLONASS receiver that feeds position data to compatible mobile devices when the built-in GPS in a phone or tablet struggles at the helm.
It tracks both GPS and GLONASS satellites, is WAAS-enabled, and can output position updates at 10 Hz, with accuracy rated to 3 meters. The internal rechargeable battery runs about 13 hours, and the unit measures 0.70 in x 1.65 in x 3.04 in and weighs 2.12 oz.
On a boat, set it where it can see the sky through glass or a clear hatch, then keep it out of direct spray and bring it inboard when the cockpit is getting soaked.
Key features
- GPS + GLONASS reception with WAAS support
- Position updates up to 10 times per second (10 Hz) for smoother tracking in compatible apps
- Bluetooth pairing range up to 30 ft (10 m)
- Rechargeable battery with about 13 hours of run time; can be used while charging via mini-USB
- Status and Bluetooth LEDs to confirm pairing, charging state, and satellite fix
- Automatic power-off after several minutes without a Bluetooth connection
Variants
This product is offered in two packaged versions.
Both versions center on a GLO 2 Bluetooth GPS/GLONASS receiver; the difference between versions is the included accessories and any bundled software subscription.
- 010-02184-01: Version: Device Only. Includes the GLO 2 receiver, vehicle power cable, USB cable, and documentation. This is the base kit for adding an external GPS feed to a phone, tablet, or computer over Bluetooth.
- 010-02184-00: Version: Aviation Bundle. Includes the GLO 2 receiver, anti-skid mount, power cable, USB cable, documentation, and a 6-month Garmin Pilot app subscription. The receiver still functions as a standalone Bluetooth GPS for other compatible apps.
Installation and setup
Charge the unit, turn it on, and pair it in your device’s Bluetooth settings. For the most consistent fix, place it where it has a clear view of the sky; the status LED turns solid green when it has a satellite fix.
Compatibility and fit
GLO 2 shares GPS position over Bluetooth, so it works best with devices and apps that can accept an external Bluetooth GPS feed. Because it is a portable receiver, it is typically placed near the windshield, under a clear hatch, or on a dash surface with a clean sky view, rather than being wired into a helm network.
This is a practical match for WiFi-only tablets used as charting displays, and for boats where the helm station sits under a hardtop or inside a pilothouse.
Power and charging
The battery charges in about three hours through the mini-USB port, and you can run the receiver while it is plugged in. Onboard, that usually means powering it from a USB outlet, a USB battery pack, or a 12 V outlet using the included vehicle power cable where that style of connection is available.
Use cases on board
This receiver is a good fit for skippers navigating on a tablet, anglers running phone-based charting, and anyone who wants a compact backup GPS that can move between boats without a permanent install.
