Overview
The Blue Sea Systems MaxiBus 250A BusBar is a heavy-duty electrical distribution busbar for consolidating multiple conductors or feeding multiple circuits in marine AC and DC systems. It is rated for 250A continuous current, with a maximum voltage of 300V AC or 48V DC, making it a practical fit for battery banks, main distribution points, inverter feeds, charging systems, and negative return consolidation on boats.
The raised tin-plated copper bus gives installers room to land multiple wires cleanly, while the UL 94-V0 rated glass-reinforced thermoplastic base helps handle heat in demanding electrical compartments. Recessed mounting holes help reduce the chance of accidental shorts when the busbar is mounted near aluminum or steel surfaces.
Key features
- 250A continuous rating for high-current distribution and return circuits on board.
- Maximum voltage rating of 300V AC and 48V DC for marine electrical systems within those limits.
- Tin-plated copper CDA 110 / UNS 11000 bus material for low-resistance current transfer.
- UL 94-V0 rated glass-reinforced thermoplastic base for heat resistance in electrical compartments.
- Insert-molded stainless steel studs allow high stud torque without a separate securing nut.
- Raised bus layout gives better access when terminating multiple conductors on one stud or screw point.
- Recessed mounting holes help prevent accidental shorts to metal mounting surfaces.
Variants
This MaxiBus 250A BusBar is offered in several terminal layouts so the same current rating can be matched to different wiring layouts and conductor counts.
The variants differ by the number and type of termination points: 5/16"-18 studs for larger ring terminals, #10-24 screws for smaller branch or accessory conductors, or a combination of both. The 250A continuous rating, 300V AC / 48V DC maximum voltage rating, tin-plated copper bus, and UL 94-V0 rated base remain consistent across the range.
- 2127: Four 5/16"-18 studs. This layout suits installations where the main need is landing larger conductors on stud terminals with a clean common bus point.
- 2128: Two 5/16"-18 studs plus six #10-24 screws. This layout combines larger stud connections with smaller screw terminals for mixed main and branch wiring.
- 2105: Two 5/16"-18 studs plus twelve #10-24 screws. This layout gives more screw terminal positions for systems with a higher number of smaller conductors tied into the same bus.
- 2126: Six 5/16"-18 studs. This layout focuses on larger stud terminations when multiple heavy conductors need a shared distribution or return point.
Installation and fit
Install the busbar in a dry, protected electrical area where terminals can be inspected and tightened without strain on the wiring. The open layout is useful in battery compartments, distribution panels, machinery spaces, and equipment lockers where organized cable routing matters as much as current capacity.
Use ring terminals that match the selected terminal layout and tighten connections to the proper torque for the terminal type. The recommended stud torque is 132 in-lb, and the recommended screw torque for #10-24 screw terminals is 23 in-lb where those screw terminals are present.
Electrical use on board
This busbar works well as a common positive distribution point, negative return bus, or shared connection point for charging and load circuits, provided the installation stays within the 250A continuous rating and the voltage limits. It is especially useful when a boat has outgrown simple point-to-point wiring and needs a cleaner way to group conductors.
As with any marine high-current connection, cable size, overcurrent protection, terminal quality, and mounting location should be matched to the actual load and the vessel wiring plan.
