Overview
The Vimar VM08217 is an 8000 Series RJ45 phone jack with an 8-position, 8-conductor (8/8) interface for structured wiring on board. It terminates on screw terminals, which keeps installs straightforward when you are working in tight consoles or behind cabin panels.
This is an unscreened (unshielded) RJ45 jack and it is meant for round cable. It is not intended for flat cable, litz-wire conductors, or solid conductors, so it is worth checking the cable type before you commit to a pull through conduits and bulkheads.
Key features
- RJ45 8/8 (8-position, 8-conductor) jack for structured data or phone-style runs on board
- Screw terminal connection for field wiring without specialized termination tools
- Unscreened jack that does not provide shield termination
- Suitable for round cable routing through conduits and cable glands
- Not suitable for flat cable, litz-wire conductors, or solid conductors
- Built for the Vimar 8000 Series Netsafe structured wiring system and modular infrastructure
Installation and setup
Plan the run so the jack ends up in a dry, serviceable spot, such as behind a nav station panel, inside a helm console, or in a comms locker with other structured wiring. Leave a little service loop and secure the cable so engine vibration and slamming loads are not transferred into the terminals.
Because this jack uses screw terminals, take the time to dress conductors cleanly and keep pairs organized before tightening. If the installation is in a humid area, use an appropriate enclosure or back box so salt air and condensation do not sit on the terminations.
Compatibility and fit
This jack is part of the Vimar 8000 Series system infrastructure, so it is intended to be installed within compatible Vimar 8000 modular plates, frames, and structured wiring layouts. It is a passive component and does not require a 12 V or 24 V feed, but it should be kept separated from high-current DC cabling where possible to reduce noise pickup on long low-voltage runs.
Use cases on board
A good match for boats that use RJ45 cabling for onboard networking, router access points, VoIP handsets, or bridge and accommodation area outlets where a clean, modular wall or panel finish matters. It also fits well in refits where you are standardizing multiple outlets to the same Vimar 8000 structured wiring format.
