Overview

The Vimar IDEA Series is a flush-mounted IR relay switch for automatic lighting control on 230V AC circuits. It uses an infrared motion sensor, an adjustable dusk/dawn threshold, and an adjustable time-delay cycle, with a NO 6A 230V relay output and a 230V 50-60 Hz supply.

For marine interiors, this type of switch makes sense where lights need to come on automatically in enclosed spaces such as a companionway, passageway, head, or utility area on a boat with an onboard AC system. The unit is built as a 1-module IDEA device with snap fastening and a matt thermoplastic finish, so it suits panels and switch positions already based on the IDEA format.

This is a mains-voltage control device, not a 12V or 24V DC lighting accessory. It is best matched to vessels that already have 230V AC distribution for interior services and want automatic light switching without moving to a networked control system.

Variants

This product is offered in two color configurations within the same IDEA one-module IR relay switch format.

The difference between the variants is the front color and its RAL reference. The motion-sensor function, 230V 50-60 Hz supply, NO 6A relay output, flush-mounted one-module format, snap fastening, and matt thermoplastic finish stay the same across both versions.

• VM16633: Grey, RAL 7015. This version suits darker switch layouts and trim while keeping the same electrical and mounting specification.
• VM16633.B: White, RAL 9001. This version gives a lighter finish for cabins and interior panels while keeping the same sensor and relay function.

Installation and fit

This is a flush-mounted insert for a single IDEA module, so fit depends on having an IDEA switch layout and the space for a standard flush installation. On board, it is most useful on an interior bulkhead where normal crew movement passes through the sensor area rather than in an exposed deck location.

For stable detection, keep the sensor clear of direct sunlight, heat sources, and obstructions such as doors, lockers, plants, furniture, or structural barriers. The recommended flush-mounted installation height is about 110 to 130 cm above floor level.

Electrical and system integration

This switch belongs in a properly protected 230V AC circuit and should be treated as mains-voltage equipment during installation and service. It works well in boats that use shore power or inverter-fed AC interiors and want lights to react automatically in spaces that are used for short visits throughout the day.

It is a sensible match for enclosed living spaces, crew areas, and service spaces where hands-free light activation is useful. No IP rating is specified here, so exposed exterior or washdown locations need a separate fit check before use.
