Overview
The Blue Sea Systems Digital Meter is a panel-mounted meter range for monitoring important AC or DC electrical values on boats, including voltage, current, frequency, and power depending on the selected configuration. The range covers DC input versions from 7-60V DC or 8-32V DC, and AC input versions from 80-249V AC, so the correct choice depends on the circuit being monitored.
These meters suit helm stations, electrical panels, battery monitoring points, inverter or shore power panels, and other locations where a clear digital readout helps the operator keep an eye on system condition. Several versions include three display brightness levels, a splashproof front, and sleep mode for reduced power use when the display is not needed.
Key features
- Digital display options for voltage, current, frequency, and multi-function AC or DC monitoring, depending on the selected meter.
- DC voltage versions monitor 0 to 60V DC, covering common 12, 24, 32, 36, and 42V DC boat systems.
- AC voltage versions monitor 80 to 270V AC, useful for shore power, generator, and onboard AC distribution panels.
- Current-reading DC configurations measure up to -500 to +500A and use a 500A shunt for high-current monitoring.
- Current-reading AC configurations measure 0 to 150A and use a current transformer for AC load monitoring.
- Selected alarm versions add audio and visual alerts for high and low voltage, and the AC multi-function version also includes high current alarm capability.
- Three display brightness levels help the readout stay usable in changing cockpit, cabin, and panel lighting conditions.
- Splashproof front helps protect the meter face in exposed or semi-exposed marine panel locations.
- Single-meter format works with compatible Blue Sea Systems mounting panels and blank meter panels for clean panel integration.
Variants
This Digital Meter range varies by measured function and input voltage. Options include DC voltage, DC current, AC voltage, AC current, AC frequency, and multi-function configurations that combine several readings in one display.
The DC models cover low-voltage boat electrical systems, while the AC models are used on higher-voltage AC circuits such as shore power or generator-fed panels. Alarm capability is included only on specific versions, so it should be matched to the level of monitoring required for the installation.
Electrical and system integration
For DC installations, the voltage-only versions are used to watch battery banks or DC distribution voltage, while the current and multi-function versions are better suited to charge and load monitoring. DC current meters that operate through a shunt are normally installed on the negative side of the circuit; positive-side current measurement requires the correct shunt shifter accessory.
For AC installations, the voltage, current, frequency, and multi-function options help monitor shore power, generator output, and AC distribution behavior. The AC multi-function configuration combines current, voltage, frequency, and power readings, which can reduce panel clutter when several AC values need to be checked from one location.
Installation and use on board
These meters are a practical fit for electrical panels where quick visual confirmation matters, such as a helm electrical station, nav station, machinery space panel, or main AC/DC distribution board. The display brightness settings are useful on boats that move between daylight operation, night running, and dim cabin lighting.
Before ordering, match the meter to the circuit type, input voltage range, and value being monitored. A DC meter should not be substituted for an AC circuit, and a voltage meter will not provide current, frequency, or power readings unless those functions are part of the selected configuration.
