Overview
The Garmin 010-01740-03/18XHD is a GPSMAP 1042xsv keyed chartplotter and sonar bundle paired with a GMR 18 xHD 18-inch, 4 kW dome radar for U.S., Canada, and Bahamas coverage. The display is 10.1 inches diagonal with 1024 x 600 resolution, runs on 10 to 32 Vdc, and carries an IPX7 water rating for typical spray and washdowns.
On the chartplotter side you get a 10 Hz GPS and GLONASS receiver, preloaded U.S. LakeVü HD inland maps and BlueChart g2 coastal charts, and built-in sonar support for single-channel CHIRP plus ClearVü and SideVü. Radar and other onboard data can be shared over the Garmin Marine Network and NMEA 2000, with NMEA 0183 I/O available for older integrations. The radar supports 24 or 48 RPM rotation speeds and a 48 nm maximum range setting, with dual range viewing available on compatible chartplotter screens.
Key features
- 10.1-inch WSVGA display (1024 x 600) with keypad control and a multifunction knob for operation in rough water or with wet hands.
- Power range from 10 to 32 Vdc and an IPX7 water rating on the chartplotter for typical helm environments.
- Internal 10 Hz GPS and GLONASS receiver for fast position updates while running or trolling.
- Built-in sonar support for single-channel CHIRP plus ClearVü and SideVü, with Panoptix support for compatible transducers and modules.
- GMR 18 xHD 18-inch, 4 kW radome radar with 24/48 RPM rotation speeds and a 48 nm maximum range setting.
- Dual Garmin Marine Network ports for expansion, plus NMEA 2000 networking and NMEA 0183 input/output for mixed-system installs.
- Composite video input (BNC) for a compatible camera feed at the helm.
- Wireless connectivity on the chartplotter (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ANT) for app and accessory connections.
Installation and setup
The chartplotter can be bail mounted on a console or flush mounted for a cleaner helm layout. Overall unit size is 12.5 x 7.3 x 2.7 inches, which helps when checking dash depth and door clearances behind the panel, and the compass-safe distance is listed at 25.5 inches.
The radar dome mounts on a level surface with a clear view forward, usually on a hardtop, arch, or mast platform. The included 15 m power and 15 m network cables help reduce splices on longer runs, and the radar connects directly to the chartplotter over the Garmin Marine Network. A no-transmit zone option can be used to limit radiation in specific directions when the mounting location calls for it.
Electrical and system integration
Plan separate power feeds and proper circuit protection for the display and radar, especially on boats with long cable runs or voltage drop concerns. The chartplotter uses a 6 A fast-acting fuse, and both components are built for 10 to 32 Vdc systems, making them suitable for most 12V and 24V installations.
NMEA 2000 support makes it straightforward to bring in heading, wind, engine data, and other sensors, while NMEA 0183 can bridge to legacy radios and instruments. Radar target tracking features that rely on heading data require a heading sensor on the network.
Use cases on board
This package fits boats that want charting, sonar, and radar in one networked setup, from coastal cruising to offshore runs where traffic and weather awareness matters. It is also a good match for anglers who want side and down scanning at the same station where radar is running during low visibility or night approaches.
