Overview
The Garmin 010-01740-03/GMR18+ is a bundle that pairs the GPSMAP 1042xsv chartplotter/sonar with the GMR 18 HD+ 18-inch dome radar. The radar delivers 4 kW peak output with a 36 nm maximum range and a 20 m minimum range, and it runs on 11 to 35 Vdc, so it fits typical 12 V and 24 V onboard systems.
At the helm, you get a 10-inch keyed display with a control knob, built-in traditional CHIRP, CHIRP ClearVü, and CHIRP SideVü sonar support (transducer sold separately), plus preloaded U.S. LakeVü HD and BlueChart g2 HD charts. It also includes Quickdraw Contours for drawing your own maps and SailAssist tools for sailing data screens.
Radar and accessories tie in through Garmin Marine Network, with NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 connections available for autopilots, AIS, VHF, and other sensors. The chartplotter includes wireless connectivity and a BNC video input if you want to bring in a composite camera feed.
Key features
- GMR 18 HD+ 18-inch radome with 4 kW peak output, 36 nm maximum range, and 20 m minimum range for close-in awareness around traffic and weather.
- Radar rotation speed up to 24 RPM with a 5.2 degree beam width for target separation that stays readable at typical cruising speeds.
- Radar power spec: 11 to 35 Vdc input (3.5 A) with a 7.5 A fuse requirement for a protected feed.
- Radar overlay support on the chart page; best overlay alignment and MARPA target tracking require a heading sensor or autopilot (sold separately).
- GPSMAP 1042xsv 10-inch keyed display with a control knob for quick menu work in chop, rain, or cold hands.
- Built-in sonar support for traditional CHIRP, CHIRP ClearVü, and CHIRP SideVü; transducers and sonar modules can be added to match your hull and depth range.
- Network and sensor integration: 2 Garmin Marine Network ports, NMEA 2000 port, and NMEA 0183 input/output for sharing data with other electronics.
- Preloaded U.S. LakeVü HD and BlueChart g2 HD mapping, plus Quickdraw Contours for custom charting.
- Ports and convenience: 12-pin transducer port, BNC video input, and wireless connectivity.

Installation and setup
The radar dome mounts best on a level surface with a clear view forward and to the sides, such as a hardtop, arch, or mast platform. Keep a 1 m compass-safe distance, mount it where the beam path stays above head height, and align the bow reference mark when you bolt it down. Plan the cable route before drilling, and seal any deck penetrations with marine sealant to keep water out.
The radar connects to the GPSMAP through the included Garmin Marine Network cable, while the radar power cable goes to a protected DC feed. The chartplotter uses its own power/data cable, and the supplied NMEA 2000 T-connector and 2 m drop cable make it straightforward to add the unit to an existing backbone or start a small network.
Compatibility and system integration
This bundle is a good fit when you want chartplotting, sonar capability, and radar on a single helm display while keeping room to expand. Two Garmin Marine Network ports support adding another network device without an immediate port expander, and NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 let you bring in heading, AIS targets, engine data, and other sensor information depending on what is installed on your boat.
If you plan to use MARPA target tracking or want the radar overlay to line up cleanly with the chart at all headings, include a heading sensor or compatible autopilot on the network.
Use cases on board
This setup makes sense for coastal cruisers and fishermen who run early, late, or in reduced visibility and want radar awareness alongside navigation and sonar screens. It also suits sailboats that want the SailAssist features on the chartplotter while keeping an easy-to-read radar picture available at the helm.
