Overview
The Vimar VM16772 is a 2-module mounting frame for flush panel installation, used to secure Vimar Idea modular devices behind a boat’s switch panel or electrical distribution faceplate. The frame is grey and measures about 122 x 29.5 mm, which helps when you are laying out tight helm or cabin panels.
It fastens to the panel with screws and the modules mount from the back side, so you can build the assembly up on the bench and then bring it to the cutout. The 2-module layout is a 1+1 stacked format, and the frame can be oriented either horizontally or vertically to suit the panel design.
This is a panel-mount frame only, with no built-in installation box. It is not intended for 60 mm round junction boxes, floor boxes, wall duct installations, or DIN rail mounting.
Key features
- 2-module panel-mount frame in a 1+1 stacked arrangement (grey)
- Flush-mounted (plaster) style frame for clean panel installs
- Module mounting from the back side for easier assembly and service access
- Mounting direction supports horizontal or vertical orientation on the panel
- Screw-fixed to the panel and supplied with fixing screws
- Fits Idea Round and Square 2-module cover plates
- Uses VM16776.AU panel mounting boxes (two required) and does not include an installation box
Compatibility and fit
This frame is for Vimar Idea modular layouts where two devices are stacked in a single 2-module position. It pairs with Idea Round and Square 2-module cover plates, and the panel-mount installation uses VM16776.AU mounting boxes behind the panel (two required), which should be planned into your behind-panel depth and wiring space.
It is not suitable for 60 mm round junction boxes, floor boxes, wall duct systems, or DIN rail mounting, so it is best used where you are building a dedicated instrument panel, switch panel, or custom electrical faceplate on board.
Installation and setup
Dry-fit the panel cutout and confirm clearance behind the panel for the mounting boxes, wiring bend radius, and any nearby steering or throttle linkages. The modules load from the rear of the frame, then the assembly is fixed to the panel with screws before the compatible cover plate is installed on the front.
On boats that see regular vibration, it is worth re-checking fasteners after the first few trips and during routine electrical inspections.
Materials and use on board
The frame is made from thermoplastic, so it will not create rust staining around a helm or cabin panel the way exposed metal hardware can. It is a good match for refits where the boat already uses Vimar Idea devices, or for new panels where you want a consistent, modular layout across switches and controls.
