Overview
The Garmin 010-10183-22 is a bronze thru-hull B744V triducer that combines depth sounder, water temperature, and paddlewheel speed in one fitting with an 8-pin connector. It runs traditional 600 W sonar at 50/200 kHz, using a wide 45° beam at 50 kHz for bottom tracking to about 1,200 ft and a tighter 12° beam at 200 kHz for detail to about 700 ft.
This is a fairing-block style install meant for fiberglass or wood hulls, with support for 0–24° deadrise. The thru-hull cutout is 2 in (51 mm), and the attached cable is 39 ft long for routing up to the helm or sonar module.
Key features
- 600 W, dual-frequency 50/200 kHz traditional sonar (45° beam at 50 kHz, 12° beam at 200 kHz)
- Depth, speed, and water temperature sensing in one thru-hull housing
- 8-pin plug with a 39 ft cable for direct connection to compatible Garmin 8-pin sonar inputs
- Bronze housing with fairing-block style installation for fiberglass or wood hulls, supporting 0–24° deadrise
- 2 in (51 mm) hull hole size with 4.75 in (121 mm) usable shaft length
- Self-closing valve helps limit water flow when the insert is removed for cleaning or when using a blanking plug
- Paddlewheel speed sensing with a 1 to 45 knot operating range
Compatibility and fit
This transducer is intended for fiberglass or wood hulls. A bronze thru-hull should not be installed in a metal hull because electrolytic corrosion can occur. Plan on adequate interior clearance to tighten the retaining hardware and to remove the insert for service.
It is built around a 2 in (51 mm) thru-hull opening and is meant to be installed with a fairing block so the face sits correctly in the flow of water, especially on hulls with noticeable deadrise.
Installation and setup
Choose a mounting spot where the unit stays continuously submerged and sees clean water flow, away from intakes, steps, strakes, and other sources of turbulence. The fairing block is oriented so the arrow points forward, and it is cut to match the hull angle so the sound beam points straight down.
On the electronics side, the 8-pin connector plugs into compatible Garmin 8-pin sonar ports. When connecting to a 6-pin Garmin sounder, an adapter cable (010-11612-00) is required.
Use on board
This style of triducer is a practical match for boats that want one thru-hull fitting to feed depth for navigation, speed-through-water for instrument data, and temperature for fishing and seasonal water tracking. It is commonly installed on coastal cruising powerboats and sailboats where consistent readings are needed while underway.
Maintenance and care
In saltwater, use water-based antifouling paint where appropriate to help control marine growth around the housing and paddlewheel area. If speed readings become erratic, the paddlewheel insert can be removed for cleaning; lubricate seals as needed and recheck for leaks after servicing.
