Overview
The Hella Marine NaviLED PRO stern navigation lamp is a sealed LED stern light that shows the required white light aft and keeps working on boats that see spray, sun, and vibration. It runs on Multivolt 9-33V DC for 12V and 24V systems, draws less than 2W, and comes pre-wired with 2.5 m of twin-core marine cable.
The housing and lens use high impact, UV resistant acrylics and the unit is IP67 rated, so washdowns and rough conditions are easier to live with once it is installed and the cable entry is properly sealed. Built-in protection helps it handle voltage spikes up to +500V and reverse polarity down to -500V.
Visibility is offered in 2 NM and 3 NM versions to match different vessel requirements, and approvals cover common international and US navigation-light standards.
Key features
- Stern navigation light format for the aft white sector (135 degrees) used under COLREG navigation rules
- Multivolt 9-33V DC input for 12V and 24V onboard systems
- Very low draw: under 2W (about 0.17A at 12V)
- IP67 completely sealed construction for wet installs and washdowns
- Pre-wired 2.5 m twin-core marine cable for quicker routing to the nav light circuit
- Electrical protection: spike protected to +500V and reverse polarity protected to -500V
- High impact, UV resistant acrylic housing and lens to stay clear in the weather
- Approx. 250 g including cable
- Approvals include IMO Col Reg 72, USCG, ABYC C-5, and Wheelmark
Variants
This stern lamp is offered in multiple configurations so you can match both the visible distance requirement and the look of the mounting area.
The options vary by shroud color (black or white) and visible distance (2 NM or 3 NM). The core electrical format stays consistent with Multivolt 9-33V DC input, IP67 sealing, and a 2.5 m pre-wired cable.
- 017462011: White shroud, 2 NM visible distance. A white shroud that suits white gelcoat and light-colored hardtops while meeting a 2 NM stern-light requirement.
- 017462001: Black shroud, 2 NM visible distance. A black shroud that fits darker transoms, arches, and modern trim while meeting a 2 NM stern-light requirement.
- 017462101: Black shroud, 3 NM visible distance. A 3 NM option used where a longer visible range is specified, with a black shroud for darker finishes.
- 017462111: White shroud, 3 NM visible distance. A 3 NM option used where a longer visible range is specified, with a white shroud for lighter finishes.
Installation and setup
Mount the light on the stern centerline with the lens facing aft so the white sector is visible over a 135 degree arc. Keep it clear of rails, outboards, davits, and dinghy gear that can shadow the light when the boat trims or heels.
Route the pre-wired cable to a switched navigation-light circuit and use sealed marine connections. If the cable passes through a deck or transom, bed the pass-through properly to keep water out of the core and the laminate.
Compatibility and fit
2 NM and 3 NM versions are available. 2 NM is typically used for vessels up to 50 m, while 3 NM is used for vessels over 50 m when higher visibility is required under navigation-light rules.
The Multivolt input covers both 12V and 24V systems, which helps on refits where battery voltage can sag under load or fluctuate while charging.
Electrical and system integration
With reverse polarity protection to -500V, the light is more forgiving if wiring is crossed during install, but it should still be connected with correct polarity and protected by an appropriately sized fuse for the circuit. The low power draw makes it easier to leave navigation lights on during long night runs without leaning hard on the house bank.
Internal suppression components help reduce the chance of the light adding noise to radios, AIS, or other onboard electronics when it is wired into the same harnesses.
Maintenance and care
The unit is fully sealed, so routine maintenance is mostly a quick wipe of the lens to remove salt film and keep the beam clean. During seasonal checks, inspect the cable jacket, strain relief, and any bedding around the cable entry for cracking or chafe.
Use on board
This stern light is a good match for coastal cruisers, offshore passagemakers, and workboats that want an IP67 sealed LED stern light with very low draw on 12V or 24V systems. It also makes sense as an upgrade from filament stern lights on boats that see a lot of vibration.
