Overview
The Hella Marine 017146101 is a 3 nautical mile NaviLED PRO port navigation lamp in a black shroud, built for permanent side-mount installation on the port side of your vessel. It runs on Multivolt 9-33V DC for 12V and 24V systems, is fully sealed to IP67, and comes pre-wired with 2.5 m of twin-core marine cable to make routing back to your nav light switch straightforward.
This lamp uses LED optics, so there are no bulbs to change, and it handles shock and vibration well for real-world use on fishing boats, workboats, and cruising yachts. An integrated timer tracks operating hours and will indicate Service Mode after long runtime, which helps you stay ahead of compliance-related light output over the life of the lamp.
Key features
- 3 nautical mile port navigation light in a black shroud for port-side mounting
- Multivolt 9-33V DC input for 12V and 24V electrical systems
- IP67 completely sealed unit for spray, washdowns, and wet weather
- Pre-wired with 2.5 m twin-core marine cable for cleaner installs and fewer splices
- Low power draw: < 2 W (0.17 A @ 12V / 0.08 A @ 24V)
- Voltage spike protection to +500V and -500V; reverse polarity will inhibit operation without damaging the lamp
- Mounting footprint dimensions: 87 mm (W) x 90 mm (H)
- Use two M5 or 10 gauge fasteners for mounting (fasteners not included)
- Meets common navigation-light requirements including IMO COL REG 72, USCG 33 CFR 183.810, EU MED/Wheelmark, UK MED/Red Ensign, and ABYC C-5:2024
Installation and setup
Mount the shroud with the markings on the top horizontal surface and the arrow pointing straight ahead. For correct sector coverage, the port lamp should be mounted parallel to the vessel’s centre line and kept in a vertical position. Keep the light clear of rails, bow rollers, rub strakes, and other gear that can block the beam.
Use the shroud as a drilling template for the two mounting holes and the cable pass-through, then secure it with two M5 or 10 gauge fasteners. Marine-grade stainless fasteners with a wide flat head are recommended for a better seat on the housing.
Electrical and system integration
Wire the red lead to the positive supply and the black lead to negative. Protect the circuit with a fuse rated at 3 A maximum, and keep connections sealed with solder and heat-shrink to reduce corrosion in a saltwater environment. If the polarity is reversed, the lamp will not operate until corrected.
Maintenance and service life
The lamp includes a built-in operating-hour timer. After 25,000 hours it will indicate Service Mode by flashing briefly at startup, and the flash rate increases after an additional 2,000 hours. When that higher-rate Service Mode begins, the lamp should be replaced to maintain the certified light output.
Compatibility and fit
This is a good match when you are replacing an older side light and want a sealed LED unit that runs across 9-33V DC and is certified for 3 nautical mile visibility. It is also a sensible option for operators who rack up hours and want a clear service-life indicator built into the lamp.
