Overview
The Attwood Marine Roller Shaft Set is a replacement shaft and pal nut set for boat trailer rollers, with a 5/8 in shaft diameter and length options matched to common 5-1/4 in, 8 in, 10 in, and 12 in rollers. It is used to secure a keel roller or spool roller on a trailer bracket so the boat can load, center, and launch with less binding at the roller point.
The shaft and nuts are made from solid zinc-plated steel, which makes this a practical service part for freshwater and occasional saltwater trailering when the hardware is rinsed and checked as part of normal trailer maintenance. The range is useful when replacing worn shafts, missing pal nuts, or hardware that has become bent or corroded from repeated launch ramp use.
Key features
- 5/8 in shaft diameter for compatible boat trailer roller brackets.
- Solid zinc-plated steel shaft and matching pal nuts for roller retention.
- Length options cover 5-1/4 in, 8 in, 10 in, and 12 in roller sizes.
- Works as a replacement hardware set for keel rollers and spool rollers on boat trailers.
- Helps keep the roller positioned on the shaft during loading, launching, and towing.
Variants
This product is offered in multiple shaft lengths so the replacement hardware can be matched to the roller already installed on the trailer.
The shaft diameter and zinc-plated steel construction remain consistent across the validated range. The shaft length and matching roller size change by configuration.
- 11282-3: 6-3/8 in shaft length for a 5-1/4 in roller. This configuration fits the shorter roller size commonly used at tighter trailer support points.
- 11283-3: 9-1/4 in shaft length for an 8 in roller. This length suits mid-size roller positions where the bracket span is wider.
- 11284-3: 11-1/4 in shaft length for a 10 in roller. This configuration supports a longer roller used on larger trailer contact points.
- 11285-3: 13-1/2 in shaft length for a 12 in roller. This length is used where the trailer setup calls for the widest roller in this range.
Installation and fit
Match the shaft length to the roller size and trailer bracket width before installation. The shaft should pass cleanly through the bracket and roller, with enough exposed end for the pal nuts to seat properly without pinching the roller.
After installation, the roller should turn freely by hand. During seasonal trailer checks, inspect the shaft ends, pal nuts, and roller movement, especially after saltwater launches or long highway towing.
Use on board and at the ramp
This hardware is a good match for boat owners servicing trailer rollers before a fishing season, coastal cruising trip, or routine launch ramp use. Keeping the roller secured and spinning correctly helps reduce hull contact issues during loading and makes retrieval more controlled when the trailer is partially submerged.
Maintenance and care
Rinse the trailer hardware with fresh water after saltwater use and look for bent shafts, loose pal nuts, or rollers that no longer rotate smoothly. Replacing the shaft set before the roller fails can prevent extra wear on the roller bracket and reduce the chance of hull scuffing during retrieval.
