Overview

The Garmin 010-12832-18 is a replacement skeg for Garmin Force trolling motors. It bolts to the bottom of the propeller drive motor as the standard skeg and takes the first hit when the lower unit touches rocks, stumps, or the ramp.

This is the black skeg used to restore the factory profile after a grounding or during lower-unit maintenance. Swapping a worn skeg helps keep the motor protected when you fish shallow flats, river systems, or docks where the bottom comes up fast.

Installation and setup

Disconnect the trolling motor from the battery before working around the propeller or drive motor. With the motor supported in a stable stowed or service position, remove the skeg fastener, seat the new skeg fully against the housing, and tighten the fastener securely.

After installation, confirm the skeg sits straight and does not interfere with the propeller. Rinse the lower unit after saltwater use and check the skeg periodically for cracks or heavy wear, especially after any contact with the bottom.
