Overview
The Attwood Marine Heavy-Duty Battery Tray is a battery hold-down tray range for securing common marine battery groups, including 24/24M, 27/27M, and 29/31 sizes. It gives boat owners a simple way to mount a battery in a locker, console, bilge-adjacent compartment, or other protected onboard battery location where a full battery box is not required.
Each tray uses non-corrosive black plastic construction with an adjustable-height crossbar and stainless steel retaining bolts. The trays meet ABYC Standard E-10 and U.S. Coast Guard requirements, and they are intended to be installed with #10 fasteners.
The inside width is 6-7/8 inch across the range, while the tray length changes by battery group. This makes it important to match the tray to the battery case size before mounting, especially when replacing an older tray or working inside a tight battery compartment.
Key features
- Holds common marine battery groups in a tray format for installations where battery access and ventilation matter.
- Non-corrosive black plastic construction suits damp battery compartments and saltwater boat environments.
- Adjustable-height crossbar helps secure the battery case without enclosing the full battery.
- Stainless steel retaining bolts help resist corrosion around battery storage areas.
- Meets ABYC Standard E-10 and U.S. Coast Guard requirements for battery hold-down applications.
- Installs with #10 fasteners, so the tray can be mounted to a suitable flat surface on board.
Variants
This battery tray is offered in multiple configurations to match different battery group sizes. The main difference between variants is the supported battery series and the inside tray length.
The construction, crossbar style, retaining bolt material, compliance claims, and 6-7/8 inch inside width remain consistent across the range. Select the tray by comparing the inside dimensions with the battery case that will be secured on board.
- 9096-5: Battery Series 24/24M, with inside dimensions of 10-7/16 inch L x 6-7/8 inch W. This size fits Group 24 and 24M batteries commonly used for smaller starting, house, or auxiliary battery installations.
- 9095-5: Battery Series 27/27M, with inside dimensions of 12 inch L x 6-7/8 inch W. This size supports the longer Group 27 and 27M battery cases often used where more capacity is needed.
- 9094-5: Battery Series 29/31, with inside dimensions of 13-1/16 inch L x 6-7/8 inch W. This size covers larger Group 29 and Group 31 batteries used in higher-capacity house banks and demanding onboard electrical setups.
Installation and fit
Before drilling, place the battery in the tray and check clearance for the crossbar, cables, terminal boots, compartment lid, and nearby plumbing or wiring. Battery trays should be mounted to a solid surface that can handle boat motion, engine vibration, and the weight of the battery when the vessel is underway.
Use the tray only with a battery size that matches the listed inside dimensions. A tray that is too short may interfere with the battery case, while an oversized tray can allow movement if the battery is not properly restrained.
Use cases on board
These trays are a practical match for center consoles, fishing boats, runabouts, cruisers, and utility battery compartments where the battery needs to stay restrained but still remain accessible for inspection, charging, and cable service.
