Overview
The Garmin 010-N2316-10 is a remanufactured GPS 24xd NMEA 2000 position sensor with an integrated magnetic heading sensor for boats that need steady GPS and heading data on the network. It updates position at 10 Hz and tracks GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, and BeiDou satellites, with typical marine accuracy under 50 cm (CEP 50%) and under 1.0 m (88%).
Because it outputs magnetic heading, chart orientation and radar overlay stay stable when the boat is moving slowly, docking, or trolling, where course over ground can lag or wander.
The case uses a high-impact plastic alloy with full gaskets and an IPX7 water rating for rain, spray, and washdowns. Power comes from the NMEA 2000 network (LEN 3) with typical draw of 150 mA at 12 V, and the included 6 m drop cable helps reach a nearby backbone run without splicing.
Key features
- NMEA 2000 position and heading output for compatible displays, instruments, radar overlay, and autopilot systems
- Integrated magnetic heading sensor with heading accuracy within 3 degrees for stable overlays at low speeds
- 10 Hz position updates for responsive on-screen movement and navigation data
- Expanded GNSS reception across GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, and BeiDou to hold lock in challenging coverage areas
- IPX7 water rating with a fully gasketed housing built for wet decks and routine washdowns
- 6 m (19 ft 8 in) NMEA 2000 drop cable included, plus NMEA 2000 load equivalency number (LEN) 3
- Mounting hardware supports surface, pole, and under-deck installation options (under-deck is for fiberglass surfaces only)
- Compass-safe distance of 150 mm (5.9 in) to help plan placement around compasses and other sensitive gear
Installation and setup
Mount it where it has a clear view of the sky and stays out of shadow from hardtops, masts, and radomes. Keep it away from speakers, strong magnets, and other sources of electrical noise, and do a quick handheld-compass check at the mounting spot to catch magnetic interference before you drill.
For pole mounting, it threads to a standard 1 in OD, 14 threads-per-inch pipe-threaded pole. Under-deck mounting only works under fiberglass; it will not acquire satellites through metal.
On the network side, connect it to a powered, properly terminated NMEA 2000 backbone using the included T-connector and drop cable. After installation, run heading calibration and auto heading alignment so connected electronics can use the magnetic heading output; alignment is done on calm, open water and requires the boat to reach at least 4 mph (6.4 km/h).
Maintenance and care
Rinse salt residue as needed and wipe the housing with a cloth dampened with mild detergent solution. Avoid chemical cleaners or solvents that can damage plastic components.
