Overview
The Attwood Marine Heavy Duty Transom Saver is an adjustable motor support for trailered boats with outboard engines, built to help carry the cantilevered weight of the motor instead of leaving that load on the transom alone. This range covers three length spans, from 24" to 36", 32" to 44", and 44" to 56", so the support can be matched to the distance between the trailer and the lower unit on different boat and trailer setups.
It is made for the real stress points of trailering: road vibration, trim and tilt load, steering movement, and the repeated shock that comes from towing over uneven pavement. The heavy duty head holds the engine, while replaceable rubber pads help cushion the contact area. Roller and bolt-style trailer mounting options give the installer flexibility when matching the support to the trailer layout.
Key features
- Adjustable transom saver range for outboard support while the boat is being trailered.
- Helps support the cantilevered weight of a tilted outboard motor to reduce strain on the transom during transport.
- Stabilizes the engine and steering mechanism so the outboard is less likely to bounce or swing while towing.
- Heavy duty head secures the motor at the support point.
- Replaceable rubber pads on the adjustable head help cushion engine contact and extend service life.
- Roller and bolt-style trailer mounting options support common trailer setups.
- Aluminum construction with a clear anodized tube for trailering use around marine environments.
Variants
This transom saver is offered in multiple adjustable lengths so the support can be matched to the boat, trailer, and outboard position.
The main difference between variants is the length range. The heavy duty head, roller/bolt mounting style, and replaceable rubber pad design remain consistent across the range.
- SP-4000-ADJ-RB: Length range 24" to 36". This shorter range suits setups where the trailer support point sits closer to the outboard lower unit.
- SP-424-ADJ-RB: Length range 32" to 44". This mid-range option covers many common trailer and outboard spacing needs.
- SP-436-ADJ-RB: Length range 44" to 56". This longer range is for installations where the trailer support point is farther from the engine.
Installation and fit
Before installation, measure the distance from the intended trailer mounting point to the outboard support point with the engine in its trailering position. The selected length range should allow the transom saver to sit securely without forcing the motor up or leaving the support loose.
The trailer end can be set up for roller or bolt-style mounting, depending on the trailer layout. Once fitted, the support should hold the outboard steady while still allowing the motor and trailer hardware to sit naturally, without side load or binding.
Use on board
This product is a practical match for boat owners who trailer an outboard-powered boat to ramps, storage, service yards, fishing spots, or weekend cruising locations. It is especially useful when the boat sees regular road miles and the outboard is carried in a raised position during transport.
Like any trailering support, it should be checked as part of the pre-tow routine. Confirm that the head is seated, the trailer mount is secure, the length adjustment is locked, and the rubber pads are in usable condition before heading out.
