Overview

The Lumitec Kraken Underwater Dock Light is a low-voltage underwater dock light that runs on 10-30 VDC and produces about 6,000 lumens of white output from a bronze housing rated IP68.

It mounts on pilings and similar dock structures using a Zip-Mount style strap system, so the light body stays outside the piling and you are not committed to big cutouts. The lens is heat-tempered glass, and the light uses the SeaBlazeX2 platform that is common across Lumitec underwater lighting.

Kraken dock lights are used as part of a larger dock lighting setup where a command box can power and coordinate multiple lights, with app-based control available when a compatible digital controller is in the system.

This light is offered in multiple configurations based on light color output.

The mounting approach, power range, and housing style remain consistent across the lineup, while the output mode changes how the light looks on the water and how it is controlled within a dock lighting system.

• 101637: Light color RGBW. Full-spectrum output for color scenes, with white output available; color selection is handled through a compatible digital controller.
• 101636: Light color White/Blue. Dual-color output that toggles between white and blue, which covers common dock lighting needs without full-spectrum color scenes.

Installation and setup

Mount the light to a stable piling or dock face where the beam has a clear path into the water. A quick clean to remove hard growth helps the mount sit flat and keeps the light from rocking over time.

For most tidal areas, placement around 6 inches below the waterline at a typical low tide is a practical starting point. Route the cable so it stays protected from abrasion and is kept away from areas where vessels rub during boarding or docking.

Electrical and control integration

This is a low-voltage DC light and should be fed from a power unit suitable for submersible luminaires. Plan cable runs so all splices and installer-completed connections remain outside of the water, accounting for tidal change under docks and near the waterline.

In Kraken system wiring, the light is powered on its DC leads and can be controlled through the data lead when used with compatible PLI control equipment. If a power unit is switched, use a timer, photocell, or standard switch rather than a dimmer.

Use cases on the dock

Kraken dock lights are commonly used to light up a slip face, seawall, or pier edge for better visibility when approaching at night and to add usable light around the waterline. RGBW versions also support color accents when you have a compatible digital controller in the system.

This setup is a good match for docks that already have a 12V or 24V DC supply (or a dedicated low-voltage dock lighting supply) and want one platform that can scale from a single underwater light to a coordinated multi-light installation.

Maintenance and care

Periodic wiping of the lens and a quick check of the mounting strap and cable routing helps maintain output and prevents chafe. In high-growth areas, cleaning the lens face keeps the light from being muted by algae or barnacles.

When pulling the dock for service, inspect the cable jacket for nicks and make sure all above-water connections remain sealed and strain-relieved.
