Overview
The Garmin 010-11442-00 is a NMEA 2000 starter kit that gives you the core pieces to build a small backbone and bring one device onto the network. In the box you get a 6 m backbone cable, a 2 m drop cable, and a 2 m power cable, plus two T-connectors and end terminators.
NMEA 2000 networks are built around a powered backbone with a terminator at each end, and each instrument or sensor connects through a T-connector using a drop cable. This kit covers that basic layout so you can add networking without hunting down individual parts or mixing connector styles.
Key features
- Complete starting point for a basic NMEA 2000 backbone with proper termination at both ends
- 6 m backbone cable to route behind a helm, through a console, or along a rigging chase
- 2 m drop cable for a clean connection from a device to a T-connector on the backbone
- 2 m network power cable for feeding the backbone from the boat’s DC electrical system
- Two T-connectors included, allowing one connection for network power and one for a device drop
What’s included
- NMEA 2000 drop cable, 2 m
- NMEA 2000 backbone cable, 6 m
- NMEA 2000 power cable, 2 m
- NMEA 2000 T-connectors (2)
- NMEA 2000 terminator connectors (1 male, 1 female)
Installation and setup
Assemble the backbone by placing the T-connectors in-line and installing the terminators on the two open ends. Route the backbone where it is protected from chafe and where connectors will not be stressed by vibration or pulled tight when the helm is serviced.
Connect the power cable at one T-connector and protect the feed with an appropriately sized fuse or breaker close to the source. Most NMEA 2000 backbones are powered from a 12 V circuit; on 24 V boats, supply the network from a regulated 12 V feed or converter so the backbone voltage stays in range.
Compatibility and fit
This kit is intended for standard NMEA 2000 networks and works as the starting point when your boat does not already have a backbone in place. It is a good match for a first-time network install on a skiff, bay boat, center console, or small cruiser where the backbone run is short and you only need one device connected right away.
If you plan to grow the network, you can extend the backbone with additional backbone cables and T-connectors and add longer drop cables where devices are mounted farther away, such as a sensor on the stern or a display at a second helm.
Use on board
Use this kit when you are adding NMEA 2000-capable electronics and want shared data across the boat, such as feeding sensor and navigation information to compatible displays. It suits owners doing a helm refit who want a clean, serviceable network foundation that can be expanded later as more devices are added.
