Overview
The Garmin 010-00701-00 is a thru-hull Intelliducer that sends water depth and water temperature data onto a NMEA 2000 network for display on compatible instruments and chartplotters. It is built for hull sections with 0° to 12° deadrise and uses 160 kHz sonar at 150 W (RMS), with a rated depth capability up to 900 ft (275 m) depending on water and bottom conditions.
This is a depth and temperature sensor, not a sonar module for bottom imaging. Because it reports over NMEA 2000, the same depth and temperature data can be shared across multiple displays on the network.
Key features
- NMEA 2000 connectivity for water depth and temperature data on the network
- 0° to 12° tilt range to match common near-flat thru-hull mounting locations
- 160 kHz traditional depth sonar with 150 W (RMS) output
- Rated depth capability up to 900 ft (275 m), with actual performance dependent on conditions
- Powered from the NMEA 2000 network (9 to 16 Vdc) with up to 2 W maximum power usage
- Includes a 19 ft 8 in (6 m) NMEA 2000 drop cable for a clean run to the backbone
- NMEA 2000 certified device
What’s included
- Thru-hull Intelliducer (top and bottom portions)
- Gasket and locking ring
- NMEA 2000 drop cable (19 ft 8 in / 6 m)
- NMEA 2000 T-connector and terminators
- Installation instructions
Compatibility and fit
This model is intended for fiberglass and metal hulls. It is not meant for wood hulls. Plan space inside the hull for the internal housing and cable connection, and allow room to rotate and lock the internal portion during installation.
The installed unit body is about 4 19/32 in (116.3 mm) long, 4 in (101.4 mm) wide, and 3 in (76.2 mm) deep. The thru-hull installation uses a 2 in (51 mm) hole, so it is best to confirm access in the bilge area and make sure the chosen spot stays submerged during use.
Installation and setup
Thru-hull placement matters more than most owners expect. A location close to the keel and away from intakes, discharges, strakes, and running gear helps avoid aerated water that can cause depth dropouts. On faster boats, placement can require extra care to keep the sensor in solid water at speed.
Because this is a below-waterline fitting, proper surface prep and a marine sealant suitable for below-waterline use are part of a normal install. For saltwater installations, a water-based antifouling coating on the external portion helps control growth that can reduce depth performance over time.
Electrical and network integration
The Intelliducer connects to the NMEA 2000 backbone with a standard T-connector and drop cable, and it draws its power from the network. If your boat already has a NMEA 2000 backbone, this sensor becomes another node on that bus so the data can be displayed anywhere on the network that supports depth and temperature.
When building a small network from scratch, correct backbone termination and proper network power are required for stable operation. The included terminators cover the termination requirement for a basic backbone layout.
Use cases on board
This sensor is a good match for boats that want dependable depth and water temperature on NMEA 2000 instrumentation for cruising, fishing, and general navigation, and that prefer a thru-hull install over a transom-mounted sensor. It also fits well on builds where multiple displays need to see the same depth and temperature data without adding a separate sounder module.
