Overview
The Raymarine E70498-B is an 18" Quantum 2 Q24D Doppler radar dome in a black radome enclosure, supplied without power or data cables for installations where Quantum cabling is already in place or will be selected separately. It uses solid-state CHIRP pulse compression with Doppler target tracking, giving boaters a clear radar picture in traffic, fog, rain, darkness, and other low-visibility situations.
This radome works on 12V or 24V DC systems with a 10.8V to 31.2V DC operating range, and it has a 20 W peak power output. The housing measures 21.3" in diameter and 8.25" high, weighs about 12.35 lb, and carries an IPX6 waterproof rating for exposed marine mounting locations.
Quantum 2 can connect by Wi-Fi or Ethernet to compatible Raymarine displays, which helps when routing data cable is difficult through a hardtop, mast, arch, or radar mount. It is a strong fit for sailboats, RIBs, center consoles, and smaller powerboats that need radar awareness without the weight and power draw of a traditional magnetron scanner.
Key features
- 18" solid-state radome radar with CHIRP pulse compression and Doppler target identification.
- Black radome enclosure for installations where a darker electronics package or hardtop finish is preferred.
- Supplied without power or data cables, useful when matching the cable length to the boat or replacing an existing Quantum installation.
- Runs on 12V or 24V DC systems with a 10.8V to 31.2V DC operating range.
- 20 W peak power output with low power draw compared with traditional magnetron radar technology.
- Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity for flexible integration with compatible Raymarine multifunction displays.
- Doppler processing color-codes moving contacts so inbound and outbound targets are easier to separate at a glance.
- Tracks up to 25 MARPA or ARPA targets when the system setup supports target tracking.
- Minimum target range of 18 ft and a maximum range scale of 24 nautical miles for close-quarter navigation and longer-range awareness.
- IPX6 waterproof rating, 24 rpm nominal rotation speed, and a 4.9 degree horizontal beamwidth.
Installation and setup
This model is intended for fixed mounting on a radar arch, hardtop, mast platform, or suitable radome mount with a clear view around the vessel. Its 12.35 lb weight is helpful on sailboats and smaller craft where weight aloft matters, especially when compared with heavier radar scanners.
Because this version does not include power or data cables, the installation should be planned around the cable route, the display connection method, and the boat's DC distribution panel. Use a Quantum power cable and, when a wired data connection is preferred, the correct RayNet or Quantum data cable for the display and route length.
Compatibility and fit
The radar is compatible with Raymarine Axiom, Axiom+, Axiom Pro, Axiom 2 Pro, and Axiom 2 XL displays, along with selected Element, eS-Series, and gS-Series displays with limitations depending on the display and software setup. Doppler mode is not available on Element displays, and some older displays only support a wired Quantum connection.
A heading sensor is not required for basic Quantum 2 operation, but it is highly useful for target tracking, radar overlay, and better performance at lower speeds. This matters on sailboats, trawlers, and displacement boats where tidal set, leeway, and slow maneuvering can affect how targets appear on screen.
Use cases on board
This radar is well suited for skippers who run in crowded channels, fish before sunrise, cross open water, or need a second set of eyes when visibility drops. Doppler target coloring helps reduce the mental load of sorting moving traffic from shoreline, anchored boats, buoys, and fixed hazards.
It also supports practical short-range work around lobster pots, fish trap markers, floating debris, kayaks, paddle craft, and navigation marks. For coastal cruising, offshore runs, and night approaches, the 24 nautical mile range scale gives useful awareness of traffic, weather cells, landfall, and navigation aids when the scanner height and target height allow it.
