Overview
The Vimar VMV71703 is a 3-module flush-mount box for hollow walls, used when you need to mount Vimar modular switches or outlets in a thin interior panel on a boat.
It installs in a 68 mm cut-out and uses metal fins to clamp securely to wall thicknesses from 1 to 38 mm. Improved retention knockouts accept conduit runs in 16, 20, or 25 mm sizes, and a centring plate on the back helps keep the hole layout aligned when you are working on finished liners or cabinetry panels.
The body is halogen-free plastic with a GW 850 °C glow-wire rating. It is not a sealed enclosure (IP00), so it belongs in protected areas behind a finished plate or inside interiors rather than in places that see direct spray or washdowns.
Key features
- 3-module box for hollow-wall installations, in light blue
- 68 mm hole-saw cut-out with a built-in centring plate for cleaner alignment
- Metal fins clamp to panel thicknesses from 1 to 38 mm
- Retention knockouts for conduit sizes 16, 20, or 25 mm
- Halogen-free plastic body with GW 850 °C glow-wire rating
- IP00 rating, intended for dry, protected mounting locations
- Can be coupled for side-by-side installations when building multi-gang runs
Compatibility and fit
This box is sized for Vimar 3-module mounting frames commonly used with Vimar modular device ranges such as Idea, Eikon, Eikon-Evo, and Arke. The rectangular body sits behind the finished plate, while the 68 mm cut-out and clamping fins handle the mechanical hold in hollow panels.
Installation and setup
Mark the cut-out, drill with a 68 mm hole saw, and clean up the edge so the box seats flat. Feed your wiring or conduit through the appropriate knockouts, insert the box, and tighten the fins until it is firm without crushing the panel. Once the mounting frame and devices are in place, give the assembly a final check for movement before fitting the cover plate.
Use cases on board
This is a good match for refits and new builds where you are adding Vimar controls to cabin bulkheads, liners, nav stations, galleys, and other interior panels that are too thin for solid-wall boxes. If the location sees moisture, plan protection at the faceplate level and keep the box itself out of direct spray.
Maintenance and care
After the first few trips, re-check the clamping fins and device screws for tightness, especially on boats that see vibration and pounding. If you open the plate later for service, inspect the cable entries and knockouts to make sure wiring stays supported and not pinched.
